It Has Been One Year Since the Worst Finale in the History of Television
It has been exactly one year since one of the greatest shows in the history of the medium of television concluded with the worst final season and ending of all-time. Just seeing all the tweets today has me mad as hell all over again.
And everybody focuses on Bran becoming king — which no doubt sucked — but in my opinion, that was the sixth- or seventh- worst thing that happened in the final season — and yeah, we're gonna go through it again because I didn't work here a year ago so my chance to bitch about it is now.
The Battle of Winterfell was a joke and thanks to some deus ex machina bullshit everyone was saved and the entire previous episode of poignant goodbyes was rendered moot. And that, of course, leads us to the Night King, who apparently had no motive whatsoever other than to just kill people. That was it. Arya somehow makes her way all the way to him and the Night King catches her in mid-air, but instead of killing her, just lets her drop her sword down to her other hand and stab him to save everyone.
I don't have as much of a problem with the whole Danaerys thing as many people because she did have a tendency to burn people alive from time to time throughout the show. The overarching point that does piss me off, however, is that the entire show was supposed to be about people overcoming the circumstances and natures they were born into, only for Dany to fall victim to her lineage of insane people and Jon to end up back at The Wall.
And then, of course, you get Bran — scratch that, the Three-Eyed Raven — who has said no fewer than 100 times he wants no part of being king becoming king. When he's sitting at the dock in his Three-Eyed Raven wheelchair and says, "Why do you think I came all this way?" I really lost it. So we're just going to make this guy king because he has a "good story"? Aaron Rodgers summed up that bullshit pretty well.
I'm still unbelievably pissed off that one of the greatest shows ever made was ruined with almost surgical precision. I would have much rather waited another decade or so for the books to be finished so we didn't leave the ending up to those two assholes who just wanted to make a Star Wars movie.
The ONLY thing good about the final season of Game of Thrones is that Sansa finally got what she deserved. Anyone who talks shit about Sansa can come talk shit to me because that is my Queen in the North and I'm glad at least one character worth a fuck had something good and realistic happen to them.
I'm going to be mad for the rest of the day now. We all deserved so much better.
